As a member of the Horse Genome Community, a supporter and collaboror in the Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes (FAANG) initiative, and as a member of the NRSP8 USDA multi-state Animal Genome working group, Dr. Mienaltowski works with several researchers to improve the equine genome for all looking to use the tool in their research.
Recent projects have included several collaborations at UC Davis with the laboratories or Dr. Rebecca Bellone, Dr. Carrie Finno, and Dr. Jim Murray.
Ongoing projects include:
- Improving annotation of equine retina genes
- Improving annotation of equine tendon-associated genes
- Resolving the effects of genetic mutations on the physiology/pathophysiology of affected organ systems
- Developing biobanks of tissues and culturable cells for downstream genomics experiments
